In 1996 Rhys Darby and Grant Lobban formed Rhysently Granted.  Part sketch comedy, part music, all surreal silliness, they were a huge hit in Christchurch with their fan base reaching the double digits.

They lasted a short time, performing at pubs and in two comedy festivals. But, they’re back, and its 20 years since their first gig at the Southern Blues Bar in Christchurch. Join us to see where these two quirky comics began, and where they are now!

Rhys Darby’s big break came with HBO’s Flight of the Conchords, and he has gone on to star in countless US TV shows and movies, including the recent The X Files reboot. He has toured as a solo standup constantly since he left NZ in 2001 for the UK. Rhys stars in upcoming US TV show Wrecked and has several other shows in development in the US.

Grant Lobban is best known as the Ticket Guy in A Night at the Classic and Damo in Shortland Street. The past 20 years have been filled with toiling as a chef, call centres and the occasional gig as a standup. Grant is also the star of many TV commercials, specializing in selling his soul to the lowest bidder. His biggest success was when he dressed as a life sized iron for Sunbeam. Unfortunately, they refused to let him keep the costume. Grant is excited to see what happens when these two best friends hit the stage together again!

Rhys and Grant will be filming this return for a documentary. Just in case there is some pure gold in there.

We are pretty pleased that Short Poppies, the TV series where I play 8 typical Kiwi characters, has been nominated for Best on the Box!   Of course, we’d love to win, the show was a blast to make, and involved some of the most amazing, talented Kiwis, many in their first acting roles (like my son Finn).  Please show your support by voting for our show at www.bestonthebox.co.nz.  You never know, I win might just encourage another series!

I am really pleased to announce I will be jetting back to Australia from LA for 3 shows in Perth, Brisbane and Sydney.  The show will be all my favourite standup from the past 3 or 4 years, its going to be GREAT!

WOW!  Way to go Nelson and Tauranga.  Nelson on May 21 has now SOLD OUT, as has Tauranga on April 14.  We have been able to add another show in Nelson on May 22, so get in quick as it is selling fast!

Due to overwhelming demand Rhys Darby has announced 3 extra shows in his Mr Adventure tour.

The lucky towns to get a little more of the Darby are Auckland, Nelson and Blenheim.  Auckland will add a third show on Saturday May 10 at the iconic Civic Theatre.  Nelson will add a second show on Thursday May 22.  Previously overlooked, Darby will now visit Blenheim on Monday May 19.  The top of the south were so enthusiastic and snapped tickets up so quickly it was decided to give them what they wanted!

The Mr Adventure tour is Darby’s biggest one yet, now encompassing 17 towns and the length of the country from Invercargill to Kerikeri.  Based in Los Angeles now Darby is excited about this tour as it is an adventure in his own country!

Mr Adventure is a show about how life is an adventure.  Using his own travels from Rwanda to Kilimanjaro, Texas to the biggest mall in Canada, Darby will take us on a journey that shows that life is a massive adventure, often bordering on the unbelievable and anyone can experience it.

I am very excited to bring a new show to NZ, all about my favourite topic, ADVENTURE!

From the misty mountains of Rwanda to the eerie shores of Loch Ness, I’ve attempted to see it all…  If you’ve ever wondered what our adventurous comedy hero does on his day off…I’ll tell you.
Expect tales of awe from the summit of Mt Kilimanjaro, hilarious reenactment of his discovering a cryptid in Texas owned by a gun toting big game hunter, and listen in wonderment as I describe the gorillas in Rwanda and how to not get lost in the biggest mall in America.

This time we have also booked our most extensive tour yet, from Invercargill to Kerikeri, Greymouth to the Hawkes Bay. You can check the gig guide for the full list.
